The ascent megarachnid6/21/2023 It's constantly deploying little spider robots against you and its primary attack is a flamethrower with a surprising amount of range. After mostly organic enemies, it's a robot, meaning you'll probably have to switch up to a different weapon type if you want to do decent damage against it. * ThatOneBoss: The Megarachnid is a major DifficultySpike. * TearJerker: The execution of Sotnikov, Demchikha, Basya, and the headman at the end. Elem Klimov, the director of ''Come and See'', was in fact married to Larisa Shepitko at the time this film was made, and doubtlessly drew great inspiration from it. While ''Come and See'' is a brutal, uncompromising portrayal of the absolute worst crimes of the Nazi occupation shown through the eyes of a ChildSoldier, ''The Ascent'' is a slower, subtler, more spiritual film showing the personal ordeal of two older enlisted men. * SpiritualAntithesis: To ''Film/ComeAndSee'', another Soviet war film focusing on Belarusian partisans. It's on the cover for the Creator/CriterionCollection version of the film, and is one of the first things that comes up if you Google the film. * SignatureScene: Sotnikov's suicide attempt in the snow near the beginning of the film. To be fair, most of it is in the context of Rybak trying to keep Sotnikov from freezing or bleeding to death with what little means he has. * HoYay: There's quite a bit of physical affection between the male leads, mostly on Rybak's end. Special mention goes to the mournful song that plays as Rybak and Sotnikov are first hauled into the POW camp. * SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic: The soundtrack is understated but beautiful. Portnov is unmoved by his plea, but Sotnikov does get the chance to tell him "]" before he's hauled off to the gallows. ** Later, Sotnikov makes one last ditch attempt to save the lives of the other prisoners by ] while absolving them. Portnov has a TortureTechnician come in and brand him, and even though he passes out from the pain he doesn't crack, and as soon as he wakes up he fixes Portnov with such a brutal DeathGlare that Portnov can't look him in the eye and orders him to be taken away. Sotnikov refuses to sell out his comrades, contemptuously rejects Portnov's attempt at a BreakingSpeech, and calls Portnov "human scum" to his face. * SugarWiki/AwesomeMoments: Sotnikov gets a few due to his sheer, unbending defiance in the face of the Nazis. !! ] * AdaptationDisplacement: Much more well known than the novella it's based on, especially in the West. And to add insult to injury, despite being internally divided into low-ranking and high-ranking bounties, they all pay out the same amount of cash (1,000 ucreds each), with their rank only being mentioned by your Imp and the bartender when you hand in the bounty. They have no personality, no backstory, no reason given why there's a bounty on their head other than some generic "they've been naughty". Instead of picking up targets from a bounty board and tracking them down, bounties are essentially just EliteMooks that you randomly run into while traveling the game world. Given how important interacting with the digital domain is in the cyberpunk genre, this is generally considered a missed opportunity. * UnderusedGameplayMechanic: ** The game's HollywoodHacking is a frequent target of criticism because of its simplicity - you literally press one button and either succeed or don't, depending solely on your cyberdeck level. Once Kira takes over he more or less vanishes from the plot and most of the quests following that amount to "do this because 圜orp tells you to, in order to secure 圜orp's profits." As nogHead points out, even the endgame revelation doesn't actually change this. * TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodCharacter: Stackmaster Poone is generally a far more interesting character and questgiver than Kira, since he's a JerkWithAHeartOfGold who is genuinely trying to find a way for everyone to survive and to eventually secure their independence.
